GitLab partners with Google Cloud to integrate Vertex AI models

GitLab Inc. announced an expanded collaboration with Google Cloud that allows customers to use Vertex AI models within GitLab’s Duo Agent Platform. The integration enables AI agents to access foundation models, including Gemini models, through Vertex AI while maintaining GitLab’s compliance and audit controls.

The partnership allows organizations to run GitLab’s AI Gateway on Google Cloud infrastructure without requiring separate AI infrastructure management. Customers with existing Google Cloud commitments can apply their GitLab Duo Agent Platform usage toward their current spending agreements.

GitLab Duo Agent Platform agents can now access Vertex AI models natively on Google Cloud, providing what the company describes as model performance with governance controls. The agents operate within GitLab’s existing access controls, approval rules, and audit logging systems.

The Vertex AI Model Garden offers customers multiple foundation model options, including Gemini models, allowing teams to select models based on performance, cost, or regulatory requirements. Self-hosted customers can use GitLab’s Bring Your Own Model option to connect approved models and gateways.

GitLab’s AI Gateway operates on Google Cloud runtimes including Google Kubernetes Engine and Cloud Run, whether managed by GitLab or self-hosted by customers.

"AI agents are only as good as the context they operate on and the governance around them," said Manav Khurana, chief product and marketing officer at GitLab. "GitLab is where that context lives across issues, code, pipelines, security findings, and this partnership connects it to Vertex AI’s strongest models."

The information is based on a company press release statement.
